Johnny has been delivering yoga weekends, training courses and retreats since September 2002. He has tutored on the Yoga Therapy and Training Centre's Level One Yoga Teaching Diploma and Introductory Courses in South West Scotland and North East England.

He has also delivered weekend retreats on the course programme at Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre, Dumfries and Galloway since July 2005.

Johnny is looking forward to delivering a new yoga training course:

Yoga Training Course “Beyond Asana”

A progressive training in yoga to enable participants to develop their own personal practice (sadhana) in a systematic and guided way.

Course Tutors   Johnny Glover and Michael McCann

The practices will be based mainly on those developed and taught at the Bihar School of Yoga. The course will be delivered from April 2008 to November 2008. It will consist of eight residential weekends at Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre in Dumfries and Galloway.

Each weekend will begin with supper at 6.00pm on Friday and finish with
lunch on Sunday which is served between 12.30 and 1.30 pm.

The course will give students an experiential understanding of traditional yoga techniques, and their practical applications. Potential participants may include;

  • Students of yoga who wish to develop their own knowledge and skills of yoga, and who wish to go deeper into their understanding of themselves and others.
  • Teachers of yoga who are interested in teachings based on those taught and practiced in the Bihar School of Yoga tradition.

Attending a course or weekend will allow you to go deeper into your practice and enjoy the benefits of time and space away fom the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

16th – 18th May 2008 at Samye Ling

This weekend is a stand-alone weekend course as well as the second part of the Beyond Asana course.

The theme of Michael McCann’s contribution this weekend will be subtle energy, known as prana or shakti, and how it relates to the breath, with reference to the scriptures of yoga.  Michael will also examine how this energy manifests in the ethereal body (pranamayakosha).  This will lay the foundation for making the connection between the concept of energy (shakti) and Consciousness (shiva).

Everyone is welcome to attend, whether or not they are part of the longer programme

"Get in touch with your zing at Samye Ling! No seriously – after a stressful week at work a weekend of yoga got rid of all the kinks in my body and my head. Smiling is infectious. I couldn't stop smiling."

Susan Smith

"I found the course very rewarding and hope to repeat it next year. "

Susie Howie

"Loved it – will come back!"

Laura Edwards

"Course was well structured and very beneficial. Thank you."

Sebastian Strobel

Enjoyed it very much. I learned much more than I did some years ago, of the background and all the reasons for different moves. I happen to be 81 years old! So don't let age put you off!

Nora Prince

"A great variety of experiences and styles meant there was something for everyone regardless of age, capacity and ability. I have learned that I can start off very small and build gently, and that I mustn't expect too much of myself.

The course is a very uplifting experience, it makes yoga make sense. "

Linda Bridges

"So worthwhile! "

Angela Noble

"I recommend this course to anyone new to yoga or nervous, wanting to explore their
abilities –or have a gentle introduction to it."
